Total loss
A claim outcome where a vehicle is treated as a total loss under the applicable policy and local rules.
A vehicle is treated as a total loss when the insurer handles it as a loss rather than arranging a repair, based on the applicable policy, valuation and local rules. The test may involve repair costs, vehicle value or a legal threshold, and it is not identical everywhere.
Ask the insurer how the decision was reached, what valuation basis applies and what documents or review options are available. A damaged battery alone does not establish that a vehicle is a total loss.
